Perry Street stand firm with a home win
2010-02-07 Perry Street vs Brentwood B (CYFL div 2) (2:1)
The Perry Street u12a team had a tough league fixture today against an improving Brentwood B team that only last week beat Intersports A 3-1 so the game was always going to be tough.
Marcus played in goal with the ever dependable centre backs of Alfie V and Jack. Adam played right back and Matthew started at left back. The midfield 4 were Cameron and Fraser on the wings and Josh and Charlie in the middle. Tommy and Alfie started up front with Phil and Callum on the bench. Tyler is still not match fit to be involved.
The game was tight and the Brentwood team defended well but it looked like Perry Street would score first winning the midfield battle and pushing up from the back. Charlie went close when a shot was tipped onto the bar from the agile Brentwood keeper. Alfie V had a freekick also well saved as he went for placement rather than power. Shortly before half time Brentwood broke and the attacker beat Adam for
pace and finished well over the out rushing Marcus to take a 0-1 leave. Brentwood had a good chance to make it 2 before half time when Phil (who had replaced Matthew) got caught out, but Jack swept round and covered well at the back.
The second half saw Callum replace Cameron. One of the Perry Street attacks saw the equaliser from Callum who struck a shot high over the keeper into the roof of the net 1-1. the second goal came after a shot from Josh was only parried by the Brentwood keeper and Callum was on hand to ensure the rebound went in past the defender who was trying to assist his teams keeper. 2-1.
Alfie R had a great chance to seal it and make it 3-1 but his shot went just wide.
Alfie V made a superb tackle (in the box) that was superbly executed and the boys as a team sustained the final few minutes pressure as Brentwood tried to find an equaliser but the defence stood firm and played the off side
retty well allowing little chances for the Brentwood attackers. The final whistle went and the boys were pleased with another w
in and stay top of the league.
Man of the match was awarded to Callum for his 2nd half 2 goals and all round good performance.
