Perry Street stand firm with a home win
2010-03-07 Perry Street vs Elite Colts Hainault (4th Rd Cup Qu Final) (2:0)
Report by Den as I was not at the game. A very cold and blustery day at Barleylands saw Perry St U12A take on Elite Colts in the quarter final of the league cup. For the first time this season Perry St had a full fit squad available and it was good to see Tyler fit and sharp again. The starting line up was Marcus in goal, Phil right back, Jack and Alfie V Centre back and Mathew Bowles left back, Charlie wide left midfield, Tyler centre left m/field, Josh centre right m/field, Fraser wide right m/field, with Tommy and Alfie R up front. Cameron, Calum and Adam started on the bench. Alfie R won the toss and chose to play with the wind advantage and the opening 15 minutes were dominated by Perry St with a number of shots going close, however some of the forward passing was not allowing for the strong wind and Perry St conceded a number of goal kicks to the opposition. Some good work down the right saw good crossing from Fraser but the crosses were not always well read by the Perry St players. Perry St went one nil up after a very brave header from Tommy from a Jack Harwood cross. Perry St continued to press but Elite were a well organized and spirited team and a number of shots were well blocked by the Elite defence. Just as Perry St looked likely to extend the lead a quick break from Elite saw Charlie tracking back the length of the field to intercept on the goal line a certain goal. Just before half time saw some changes, Fraser with a twisted ankle took a break and on came Adam, Cameron and Calum who all did well. In the second half Elite looked to try and take advantage of the wind and pressed Perry St a number of times, an outstanding one handed save from Marcus after 45 mins and a last gasp `Booby Moore` interception from Alfie V kept the Perry St lead intact. Perry St still had the much better of the half despite playing against the wind and with 5 mins to go an excellent determin
ed attack from Josh down the right hand side saw Josh score from a tight angle 2- 0 and Perry St through to the semi final. Although far from our best performance a good spirited team display and with better finishing and fewer offsides the score should have been a few more. MOM Phil Orchard for a solid consistent display.
