| Despite the poor weather conditions Stamford Wanderers decided that the match should go ahead. Battling against a strong headwind Perry Street started brightly with Matthew and Elliot making good use of the space left on the flanks by the Stamford defence. Gossy took up a central condition and battled manfully against the two central defenders. He linked closely with Mitch and Jamie in central midfield whilst James pulled the strings in front of the regular back five of Jack, Tommy, Eddie, Chris and Safe Hands Sans. Playing into the wind Perry Street took and early lead through excellent play from Matthew. Unfortunately, the striker was laid low moments later as he clashed with the on-rushing Stamford goalie. With Matthew on his way to A&E Perry Street were down to ten men for the last three quarters of the game. Facing up to the strong wind this was going to be a big ask, but Stamford did not get anywhere near Safe Hands goal until they were awarded a free kick just out-side the box. The striker made no mistake putting the |
ball into the air and, with the assistance of the wind, over and out of the reach of Safe Hands. Still Perry Street continued to maintain a strangle hold on possession with neat passing and solid tackling from the defenders and Mitch in particular. As the half came to a close a speculative Stamford cross wrong-footed Safe Hands and found its way into the net. Turning into the wind for the second half Perry Street again started the stronger team but yet another shot from outside the box found its way over the despairing dive of our goalkeeper. At three one down with only ten players most teams would have folded, but time and again Perry Street used their superior technique and passing skills to reduce the physical deficit. Their tenacity eventually paid off when Stamford gave away a penalty with the defender tackling Gossy from behind. Mitch duly struck the ball home. Not his sweetest strike of the year but enough to do the job. The last fifteen minutes were predominantly Perry Streets with Stamford only able to his th |

ooked forward to seeing him back in action in a couple of weeks time. Finally, a special mention to Ians man of the match. In a game with so many heros your effort and technical ability came to the fore. Congratulations on your award. |
